Reflections from Eman

You can begin with what is here

Therapy process · Beginning

Sometimes therapy begins with a sentence. Sometimes with silence. Sometimes with the quiet feeling that something in you is asking to be heard.

Many people arrive wondering how to explain themselves. They may feel pressure to make sense, to tell the story properly, to know where the pain started, to bring something clear into the room.

Therapy can begin more simply than that.

You can begin with tiredness. With a feeling in the chest. With a question. With anger. With grief. With a repeated pattern. With the sense that life has become too heavy to keep carrying in the same way.

The first session is a meeting point. We begin with what feels present and allow the work to take shape carefully. Some things may be spoken. Some may need time. Some may first appear in the body, in the breath, in a pause, in the way a sentence becomes difficult to finish.

You may gently notice:

  • What has been asking for my attention?
  • What feels heavy to keep carrying alone?
  • What would I like to understand with more care?
  • What feels present when I imagine beginning therapy?

Beginning therapy can be an act of honesty. A moment where something inside you is given space to exist with care.
