Reflections from Eman

When the body says no before you do

Body awareness · Boundaries · Somatic reflection

The body can speak before a clear sentence arrives.

A tight stomach. A heavy chest. A clenched jaw. A sudden tiredness. A pull to leave the room. A feeling of becoming small. These signals may appear before the mind has found the words.

Sometimes the body carries information about pressure, fear, anger, grief, old experiences, or a need that has been pushed away for a long time. It may speak through discomfort because language has taken longer to arrive.

Somatic awareness can create space for listening. We can notice what happens in the body without forcing meaning too quickly. We can ask what feels tense, what feels numb, what wants distance, what wants support, what wants protection.

This kind of listening can be gentle. It can happen slowly, with choice and care.

You may gently notice:

  • What does my body do when something feels too much?
  • Where do I sense pressure or resistance?
  • What happens when I give that signal a little space?
  • What kind of support does my body seem to ask for?

Your body may hold wisdom that learned to speak in sensation before it could speak in words.
