What happens first

The first session is a space to begin understanding what brings you to therapy.

You can share what feels present, what has been difficult, what you hope therapy may support, or what feels unclear.

There may also be time for practical points such as confidentiality, session format, frequency, payment, cancellation policy and any access needs.

You can start anywhere

A recent event, an old pattern, a body feeling, a relationship, or a sentence that feels important.

You can pause

Therapy allows space for silence, emotion, uncertainty and finding words slowly.

You can ask questions

You can ask about the process, confidentiality, online work, in person sessions or practical arrangements.

You can name your pace

Some people speak easily. Some people need time. The pace is held with care.

Useful phrases

Words you can use if you feel unsure.

I am unsure where to begin. This can be enough for the first few minutes.
I feel nervous talking about this. The feeling itself can become part of the work.
I need to go slowly.Your pace matters.
